  • Shan to run for provincial NDP in Scarborough-Rouge River

New Democratic Party candidate Neethan Shan hopes the Orange Wave will carry him to a political victory in Scarborough-Rouge River this fall.

Shan was set to kick off his bid for the provincial seat Wednesday, July 20, evening at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.

New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath, who couldn’t attend when Shan was nominated June 23, was scheduled to speak.

Shan, who is executive director of the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians, has built a high community profile in Scarborough.

This October, Shan will be up against Liberal veteran Bas Balkissoon, a former Scarborough and Toronto city councillor elected MPP for the riding in 2005. The riding changed its longtime Liberal affiliation on the federal level in May.
